This is really nothing new. Three Thieves "Bandit" wine has been in that packaging for three years now I believe. It's a winery based out of California which because of its packaging and price has actually done pretty well with the juice box (tetra pak) packaging.

Though SUPPOSEDLY this was supposed to have a straw to, at least that was what was advertised on this interesting packaging website, but I don't think it actually does, so I need to see this straw.

Oh, and if you're wondering the strange interest I have in this, it's because I'm a packaging major.

They also sell something similar at Target. It's the same brand as their boxed wine, but this is four individual packages. No straw, just an opening big enough to drink out of. Good for picnics! I am not a wine sophisticate, but I thought it was pretty OK.

The benefits of a box are that the wine isn't exposed to light, is less likely to be exposed to temperature changes, and isn't exposed to corks (a disintegrating cork destroys wine). My grandfather, who considers himself to be a wine snob, is convinced that all Napa wineries will be changing to boxes in the next couple of decades.

You know, a company advertises its wine in a box as a "21st century cask", as a wooden cask is impossible to fit in an average fridge! I'm not sure about the individual servings of wine in the "juice box", but if the equivalent of 3 bottles of wine can be comfortably stored and I have easy access to it, I like the idea. Of course, champange and sparking wines are the exceptions. Nothing will substitute the hissing of a cork coming out of a champers or prosecco or cava bottle!

I see ease of storage. Portability. Nothing to break or sour. Easy to sneek into ballgames and concerts.

Perhaps the only downside is convincing the kids to stay away from the aged grape juice.

Juicy-Juice for adults. Why not?

My wife's family is a fourth-generation wine grape grower in the CA Central Valley (Fresno area).

Her dad commented that the three most expensive things in an average bottle of wine are the bottle, the cork and the label.

Bandit wines are awesome for the price and the TetraPak eliminates corked wines (10% of all wines suffer from corkage).

I couldn't have read that right . . . they want people to drink wine at their desks at lunchtime??? Is there a boss in the U.S. that would approve of that?

Well... in Spain it is quite usual! Not the high-end brands, but what we call table wine. The most popular is Don Simon brand, which is what you have usually around at home for lunch ;)

I looked down on wine in a box until a guest left one at my house. I have to say, I've enjoyed being able to have a small glass of wine while I'm making dinner night after night after night... That box has lasted forever and it still tastes pretty good. The upside of a mini box is that you could toss a couple in a suitcase if you're heading off for a business trip. I get stuck on a lot of overnighters, I'd be willing to give mini-box a try.

We've had these in Ontario for years. There's so many advantages: Portability, weight, ease of transportation, unbreakable (for normal and accidental drop heights, not rooftops) and though recyclable, they also create less waste in the landfill when thrown in the garbage rather than out with recycling.

I'd also guess that they pack and travel more efficiently from the producers because of their shape.

I would totally drink this. Or at least try it. Perfect for picnics or other outdoor stuff where a bottle, corkscrew, glasses, etc are all impractical and irritating to haul around.

That being said, I can also clearly see the likelihood of some dope mistaking one of these for a Hi-C juice box and giving it to a toddler.

How about including a straw that stops the spills and squirts instead of one that amplifies them? Red wine on my wifes nice clothes, that's "sensory"! Buzzed adults with a juicebox full of red wine...check this solution out and help us make it reality.
